WHAT IS IT?
Head’s unique YouTek Graphene tennis racquets are able to serve up “even more speed in every shot.” Or at least that’s what the manufacturer says. But with world-class athletes like Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova backing them up, we wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
Graphene, one of the newest core technologies from the iconic sports-equipment producer, is a state-of-the-art material that has a breaking strength 200 times greater than steel. Touted as the world’s strongest and lightest substance, Graphene is constructed from a single two-dimensional layer of carbon atoms and makes up the frame for Head’s YouTek Graphene Speed, Instinct and Prestige tennis racquets. Also utilized in the racquet’s shaft, Graphene’s superior strength allowed Head engineers to lower the weight in other areas of the racquet, giving users more movement and increased swing weight.
We took the YouTek Graphene Speed Rev model for a test run, and found it to be a great option for beginner and intermediate players. It offers the perfect sweet spot and also helps with ball control. The racquet’s head size is average–not oversized like some tennis products. Coupled with the fact that the racquet is incredibly light, the Speed Rev gives more control to those who have yet to fully master their game. The comfortable size and weight of the racquet also feels good in the hand while serving. Directing your shot during serves is so important, and with the Speed Rev, controlling the ball was never a problem.
At one point, we added a vibration dampener device to the strings; this gave the racquet even more power and control. Overall, the racquet was very enjoyable to play with.
When looking for a racquet that is lightweight, has little vibration and offers good control on flat shots, the Speed Rev is a great choice.
