WHAT IS IT?
The Leatherman Hail and Style PS are two multi-tools that fit together. The Style PS is a slick compact take on Leatherman’s classic (some might say iconic) multi-tool, but unlike the Leatherman Style CS Multi-tool (which looks similar) this one does not contain any knife blades.
The Hail is a single piece multi-tool designed for snowboarders, with tools for cranking bindings, board tuning and ice scraping. It also contains a holder for earbuds and -– for the end of the day — a bottle opener. (Though, if all you need is a bottle opener and ice scraper, the Leatherman Brewzer might be the right tool for you.)
Spring-action Needlenose Pliers
Spring-action Regular Pliers
Spring-action Wire Cutters
#3 Flat/Phillips Screwdriver
10 mm Wrench
We love that you can carry this on a plane without the TSA sending you to Guantanamo — because, as we said, the Style PS doesn’t contain a knife. That said, it’s got some really sharp scissors when you do need a cutter.
The Style PS’s nylon handle is a nice detail, and the carabiner clip cleverly works even when the two tools are snapped together. It’s small enough that it won’t take up tons of space, and yet it still has a bunch of useful tools packed into a very compact package. Other pluses include:
- Useful for board tuning
- You can put a lot of torque into the Hail’s #3 Flat/Phillips screwdriver
- Pliers spring mechanism is nice and sturdy
And, maybe best of all, it’s made with beautiful stainless steel — important for snowboarders because it won’t rust or corrode
- Can be tricky to get the two tools to snap together
- Asymmetrical shape does not fit well in some pockets
- Earbuds holder is only somewhat useful
Leatherman Hail Style PS Review – CONCLUSION
The Hail + Style PS is a nicely made, clever and useful multi-tool. Buy one and snap it to your carry-on, buy another as a gift for your favorite snowboarder.
